Need to lose weight?

Weight Loss? Weight Control? Gastric-banding?

Need Weight Loss Help?

Hypnotherapy (hypnosis for a therapeutic purpose) can be used very effectively in dealing with Weight Loss, Weight Control and Gastric-banding.

By dealing with the unconscious mind (associated with the right side of the brain) and avoiding the conscious mind (associated with the left side of the brain) it is an easy and safe method of dealing with the problem by empowering the individual to help themselves. It can be used to... “greatly depress or prodigiously exaltthe arousal of selected parts of the nervous system".1

Hypnosis is NOT sleep. It is an altered state of awareness where you remain conscious but relaxed, deeply relaxed. It is a natural state of being that we pass through as we fall asleep and awaken day-by-day. It can be defined as "a naturalistic alteration of the level of activity of systems of the mind and body for a therapeutic purpose ".2

Figures 1 and 2, below, show examples of left and right brain activity as recorded by an electroencephalograph (EEG) machine measuring brain-waves during the fully conscious and hypnotic states.3

Some Descriptions:

HYPNOTHERAPY:
hypnosis for a therapeutic (helpful) purpose.
HYPNOSIS:
NOT sleep, but an altered state of consciousness/ awareness where you remain relaxed, deeply relaxed.
SELF-HYPNOSIS:
once trained, under hypnosis, you can then self-induce the hypnotic condition and use self-hypnosis - anywhere, anytime, around the world, for your own good.
GASTRIC BAND:
GastricBand_http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/183_06_190905/obr10369_fm.html
a silicone band wrapped around the top-end of the stomach to give a reduced stomach volume; about the size of a golf ball. The tightness of the band can be adjusted.

The procedue is reversible.

Figure 2: in the hypnotic state

The Hypnotic State

You can see that the electrical activity of the brain is greatly relaxed, as the mind is also relaxed, in the hypnotic state - but you are still conscious!

Hypnotherapy can be used very effectively for Weight Loss, Weight Control and Hypno-Gastric-Band surgery. Gastric band surgery is a procedure reported as being supportive of weight loss in obese patients with type 2 diabetes. 4, 8

For weight loss/control, please bring with you lists of those foods that you do enjoy eating in two lists:
1) those foods that you enjoy eating but you know are not good for you (not everyone can metabolise all foods), and...
2) those foods that you enjoy eating but you know are good for you.

1st session is a calm, relaxation, confidence-building session and dealing with presenting conditions. I give away with you a relaxation CD (homework) and build-in the facility such that I can take you back into that altered state of awareness (that Braid called hypnosis) with just a few words.

We can also discuss and consider gastric-band hypnosis (without you “going under the knife”). You might like to visit the NHS website (NHS Choices, Healthy Weight Calculator) and bring with you the relevent results from that.5

(If you wish, you can view on the BUPA website an animation of the physical procedure for inserting a gastric band, it runs for 1 minute 40 seconds. However, sometimes BUPA include content featuring or graphically representing medical or surgical procedures, which are only ever provided for educational or informative purposes. If you find or are likely to find such images offensive please do not view them or if necessary click on the "Back" button at the top left hand corner of your screen. Given that there is such content on this site, BUPA advises parents not to allow their children to browse this site and it should not be accessed by anyone under the age of 18).6

2nd session (preferably a week or so after the first session), I can take you in quicker, to a deeper level and routinely teach you how to use self-hypnosis for your own good.

If you wish to view a nine minute video of relevent part of the physical surgery procedure for gastric banding, bearing in mind the preceeding cautions, you could refer to the youtube video listed below.7

Hypno-Gastric-Band hypnosis (without you physically “going under the knife”) could be done in third visit with a suitable hypnotic subject.

A follow-up visit a few weeks after the gastric banding should be kept and you should be in agreement with me to phone/ email/ write back to me your weight, progressivly for up to two years thereafter.

My fees for hypnotherapy are £50 per session. 1st three sessions, allow 1.5 hours (but if parking allow 2 hours there - so that you know you're not being rushed, that's the message). Thereafter, if/as required, should only be an hour as you 'go-in' quicker and to a deeper level. Don't worry, we can assess as we progress.

Hope this helps. Importantly, you remain completely in control of ALL aspects of your being at all times. I'll explain more when we meet.

The information provided on www.hypnotherapy-aberdeen.com/Weight Loss, Weight Control, Gastric Band.htm is designed to support, not replace, the relationship that exists between a patient and their physician. It is therefore wise to tell your doctor of any complementary treatment you are contemplating. In fact, in some cases Stan Gerard may be reluctant to start treatment until you have done so.

As things change day-by-day, please phone 'Serendipity', 01224 213 808 for appointment day/time to suit.
